Cannot find xml file, make sure path is correct?

Using Windows Live Messenger I chat with someone extensively everyday.
When the history file is full Messenger prompts me to either save or delete the chat history.
Which I always choose to save the chat logs.
When I do this it is saved into (name)archive.XML.
Then when I try to open it I get 'Cannot find 'file:C:\Users\(name)\Documents\(name) archive .xml'.
Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.
I would like to know how to open these archives.
I have tried to open with other programs but to no avail.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair corrupted or missing system files:

1. Click Start.
2. Type cmd, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to open the elevated command prompt (I.e. Command prompt with administrative rights).
3. The User Account Control window should appear, be sure that the action it exhibits is correct, and then press the Continue button.
4. Type or copy paste the below command line into it without quotes:
