Hi lynetian,

It appears that the backup is not in progress or has failed for some reason.
I would suggest you to stop the backup and restart the computer to start over the process.

Step 1:  First, let`s check for any disk errors which might be one of the reasons for this to happen.
Refer to the below mentioned link on how to perform this check.
Check a drive for errors

Step 2: Place the computer in a clean boot state to perform backup. To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.
This kind of
startup is known as a Clean Boot.
A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
To do so, follow these steps.

a.       Click Start, type “msconfig.exe” (without quotes) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter to start the System Configuration Utility.
b.      On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box.
c.       On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
Click OK, and then click Restart.

Note:  Do not forget to put the computer back to Normal Startup once you are done.
Refer to the below mentioned article for more information.
