Backup and Restore not working [Solved]

Backup and Restore not working

hello
new laptop with windows 7 OS.
I have a new external iomega hard drive.
i am trying to backup files to the external hard drive.
I can drag and drop to the external hard drive but this is so time consuming.
Iomega has Retrospect software to automate this process
but this software does not work for windows 7.
I have tried multiple times to use windows 7 BACKUP AND RESTORE feature but the error message is always " check your backup.
the last backup did not complete successfully.
the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
 error code = 0x8078002A"

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks

Pogman
