## Calculating investment return with known cashflows over actual period (not annualised)

I am trying to calculate the actual return generated on an investment portfolio for a given period with cash flows known.

I know that XIRR gives an annualised return but what formula would I use to calculate the actual return for a period of say 9 months.

1/1/2013     \$25,000  starting balance
1/4/2013     \$10,000  additional contribution
1/6/2013     \$5,000    withdrawal
1/8/2013     \$10,000  additional contribution
30/9/2013    \$75,000  end balance

## Solutions to the Problem Calculating investment return with known cashflows over actual period (not annualised)

Assuming that you have the correct signs ( + and - ) for your cash flows, you may at first want to wrap the
XIRR function within NOMINAL function and then to find the actual return for
9 months

=NOMINAL( XIRR( B1:B5, A1:A5 ) , 12 ) * 0.75

Nominal function will return a nominal ( annual ) rate, 3/4th of such a value is the
9 months return on your investment keeping in view that 1/12th of the value returned by nominal is the
periodic monthly rate.

## Note: It is recommended that you back up your files and folders before attempting this step:

• Move the mouse cursor over to the upper right side of the screen.
• A menu will pop up on the left. Click on the "Settings" feature on the menu.
• On the Settings window, click on the "Change PC settings."
• Now, left click on the "Update and recovery" feature.
• For the next step, left click on the "Recovery" feature.
• There is an option here saying "Refresh your PC without affecting your files." There, left click on the "Get started" button.
• Now, follow the instructions on the screen to finish the Refresh process.
• After the Refresh process has finished restart your Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 device.
• Check again to see if the error Calculating investment return with known cashflows over actual period (not annualised) has been fixed.

If you do not possess the technical expertise required to accomplish this yourself or do not feel comfortable doing so, download and install a powerful automated tool to get the job done.

## Bug Report: Pasting a "no-width optional line break" after a colon inserts a space.

Post title explains it.

If you insert a no-width option break after a colon using "insert symbol > special character > no-width option break" everything works as it should.

If you copy and paste the break, and thereafter paste it in next to any colon, an erroneous space character shows up out of nowhere.

From my own testing, it seems to be only colons that cause this bug.

## Using Windows troubleshooter:

• Click on Search on Charm bar and type Troubleshooting. Click on the very first option.
• A new window will open. Click View all from the left pane.
• Scroll down to the bottom and click on Windows update.
• Troubleshooter window for Windows update will pop up. Click on NEXT. It may ask you for administrative permission.
• The troubleshooter will automatically detect problems and fix it.
• Now, close this window and try download/install the app which was previously showing error.

## BSOD on start up. can not even log in to my computer

Hi,
I'm running windows 7 home premium 64 bit on sony vaio desktop vpcl124fj (Moel PCV-A1113N) with 4 GB of RAM, a core2duo , and an NVIDIA graphics card.
I used to experience blue screen error occasionally.
But recently (probably one day after installing a game Pro evolution soccer 2009) the blue screen error continued to occur every time I start windows.
So I deleted the game.
But since then
I could not even log in to windows.
I also tried in safe mode but with no result.
I then tried start up recovery and system restore following instructions given in microsoft website.
But nothing worked.
I do not want to re-install windows yet, as I have some important documents that have no backup.
Can anyone help me please?
Regards,
QFQ

## Solutions to the Problem BSOD on start up. can not even log in to my computer

HI,

·        What is the error message that you get on the blue screen on startup?
·        Do you have the Windows 7 Installation disc?
·        Have you tried to boot from the installation disc and then perform a startup repair and check what happens?

You may follow the links given below and check if that helps.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7

To get the exact stop error you will have to boot to Advance Boot Menu by pressing the F8 key when the computer is restarting.
On the Advance Boot menu select ‘Disable automatic restart at system failure’.
This will disable the restart and you will be able to get the stop error message.

Hope this information is helpful.

## C: Drive is full after upgrade

I just updated to Windows 7 Professional from Vista Professional.
It would only let me install it on my D: drive which has a total of 14GB and is now down to 2.53GB available.
The C: drive however, which had plenty of room before Win 7 upgrade now only has 6.7 of 134 GB free.
Can anyone please help me clear this up or at least tell me what may be taking up all that room on my C: drive?
Thank you!

## Keys to the Problem C: Drive is full after upgrade

Yes, it seems you have indeed installed Windows 7 on the Recovery Partition.
Thats why you are still seeing the option to boot into Windows Vista.
Restart the computer, and boot into Windows Vista.
Click Start, right click Computer
Click Manage
Expand Disk Management

Select the Recovery Partition
Right click it, click 'Format'
You will receive a Warning dialog, click OK to continue.

The next step is to select your file system option, in this case, go with the default which is NTFS.
The formatting process will now begin.
Once complete, the drive will be displayed as a ‘Logical Drive’ in Disk Management.

Right click the ‘Logical Drive’ in Disk Management, on the contextual menu, click the ‘Delete Volume’ option.
Click ‘Yes’ when the warning dialog appears.
The Volume you deleted will now appear as ‘Free space’, you will also notice that the disk icon no longer appears in the list of volumes.
Right click the Free space partition, and click Delete, click Yes on the Disk Management warning that appears.

The volume will now appear as Unallocated.
(good stuff).
Our next step is to merge back that unallocated free space with the system partition.
Right click the System volume and click the ‘Extend Volume’ option on the contextual menu, click ‘Yes’ when the warning
appears.

A wizard will now begin that will guide through the steps to merge back the unallocated space with your system partition.

The wizard provides a simple procedure to merge back the unallocated space with the system drive.
Once you have selected the space, click Next, at the end of the wizard, you will see the amount allocated.
Proceed with the upgrade again.
I would recommend you run disk clean up, delete any old system restore points in Vista, clear out your temporary files directory click Start type: %temp% then enter.
Delete the contents of that directory.
Also, go to the root of the drive on which Vista is installed to see if any recently added files are there that are unusually large.

## Bluetooth Not Working after upgrading to windows 8.1

I have a HP Envy dv7 Notebook since I upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 my Bluetooth will not communicate it stops running.
I have tried multiple solutions but can not find a fix. for example I reinstalled and installed, all devices and software are updated,
under service applications I changed the Bluetooth from manual to automatic.
I contacted HP support and they tried everything they could but no success.
They suggested me to restore my computer back to windows 8 (factory).
I even installed a generic Bluetooth
but still would not work.
When I turn my Bluetooth on it just keeps on scanning will not communicate.
This is very frustrating I am glad I don't have a wireless mouse or keyboard cause it would be useless.
Microsoft must have a fix for this.
There is a lot
of Microsoft users having this problem along with other problems since the upgrade of windows 8.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

This error is usually a driver issue and display adapter (video) driver is the most suspect though it
could be others. Antivirus/antispyware/security programs, hardware (heat) and major software issues
can also cause the error.
When you get to the driver section of the troubleshooter use my generic
methods in the next message and then return to the troubleshooter if needed.

Have you added hardware recently or updated drivers? Be sure to look in Control Panel - Windows
Updates to see if any drivers were updated there.
Other lessor possibilities include antivirus/anti-
spyware/security programs.

When you get to the driver and memory sections of the troubleshooter refer to the next message to
update drivers and test memory and then refer back to the troubleshooter if needed.

BCCode: 7E      0x0000007E  which is also 0x1000007E
Cause
The SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bug check is a very common bug check.
To
interpret it, you must identify which exception was generated.
Common exception codes include the following:

0x80000002: STATUS_DATATYPE_MISALIGNMENT indicates an unaligned data reference was encountered.
0x80000003: STATUS_BREAKPOINT indicates a breakpoint or ASSERT was encountered when no kernel debugger was attached to the system.
0xC0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION indicates a memory access violation occurred.
For a complete list of exception codes, see the Ntstatus.h file that is located in theinc directory of
the Microsoft Windows Driver Kit (WDK).
Resolving the Problem
If you are not equipped to debug this problem, you should use some basic troubleshooting techniques.
Make sure you have enough disk space.
If a driver is identified in the bug check message, disable the driver or check with the
manufacturer for driver updates.
Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates.
Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

If you plan to debug this problem, you might find it difficult to obtain a stack trace.
Parameter 2
(the exception address) should identify the driver or function that caused this problem.
If exception code 0x80000003 occurs, a hard-coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but the system
was started with the /NODEBUG switch.
This problem should rarely occur.
If it occurs repeatedly,
make sure that a kernel debugger is connected and the system is started with the
/DEBUG switch.
If exception code 0x80000002 occurs, the trap frame supplies additional information.
If you do not know the specific cause of the exception, consider the following issues:
Hardware incompatibility.
Make sure that any new hardware that is installed is listed in the
Microsoft Windows Marketplace Tested Products List.
Faulty device driver or system service.
A faulty device driver or system service might be
responsible for this error.
Hardware issues, such as BIOS incompatibilities, memory conflicts,
and IRQ conflicts can also generate this error.

If a driver is listed by name within the bug check message, disable or remove that driver.
Disable
or remove any drivers or services that were recently added.
If the error occurs during the startup
sequence and the system partition is formatted with NTFS file system, you might be able to use Safe
Mode to rename or delete the faulty driver.
If the driver is used as part of the system startup process
in Safe Mode, you must start the computer by using the Recovery Console to access the file.
If the problem is associated with Win32k.sys, the source of the error might be a third-party remote
control program.
If such software is installed, you can remove the service by starting the computer
by using the Recovery Console and then deleting the offending system service file.
Check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help identify the
device or driver that is causing bug check 0x7E.
You can also disable memory caching of the BIOS might to try to resolve the error.
You should also
run hardware diagnostics, especially the memory scanner, that the system manufacturer supplies.
The error that generates this message can occur after the first restart during Windows Setup, or
after Setup is finished.
A possible cause of the error is lack of disk space for installation and system
BIOS incompatibilities.
For problems during Windows installation that are associated with lack of disk
space, reduce the number of files on the target hard disk drive.
Check for and delete any temporary
files that you do not have to have, Internet cache files, application backup files, and.chkfiles that
contain saved file fragments from disk scans.
You can also use another hard disk drive with more
free space for the installation.
You can resolve BIOS problems by upgrading the system BIOS version.

Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current?  What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?  What third-party firewall (if any)?
